South China's Sanya City will issue a total of 35 million yuan ($ 5.09 million) worth of vouchers to boost local tourism in the off season, according to the Sanya Tourism Promotion Board on Wednesday.
The first batch was distributed starting on Thursday on online booking platforms.
Regarding air tickets, for all flights originating from nationwide destinations to Sanya, each tourist can use one discount coupon. For each 500 yuan spent on the ticket order, a discount of 100 yuan can be applied, up to a maximum discount of 400 yuan.
For hotel accommodation, each tourist can use one discount coupon. For each 1000 yuan spent on the hotel order, a discount of 200 yuan can be used, up to a maximum discount of 1000 yuan.
Starting from April, Sanya will hold a series of tourism and sports activities, such as yacht show, wine exhibition, music carnival, art exhibition, etc.
Data from on-demand retail platform Meituan and Dianping.com shows as of Wednesday, bookings for accommodation, transportation, and attraction tickets during the May Day holiday in Sanya have increased nearly 300 percent compared to the same period in 2019.
