In Hechi, a special class gained public attention after this year's college entrance examination. The Hai'an Experimental Class at Donglan High School saw 41 of its 42 students achieve the minimum score required for admission to a top-tier university.
In previous years, it was rare for Donglan to have any students surpassing 600 points in the college entrance examination. However, the Hai'an Experimental Class had two students achieve this remarkable feat.
Comparing to the previous year, Donglan High School increased 32 students meeting the requirements for top-tier universities, indicating an overall improvement in educational performance.
Hai'an, a county-level city in Nantong, Jiangsu province, and Donglan county in Hechi, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous county, began cooperating with each other in the education field in 2020.
In June 2020, the governments of Donglan county and Hai'an city signed an education cooperation agreement. Outstanding teachers from Hai'an were selected to teach and manage schools in Donglan, while Donglan established specific measures to ensure the well-being of Hai'an teachers. Over the past three years, Hai'an teachers have cultivated an "education expressway."
"Relying solely on external support makes it difficult to address the issue of education resource imbalance. Therefore, it is necessary to form an outstanding team of teachers in Donglan," said Ya Hanguo, deputy director of the education bureau of Donglan county. While Donglan invited teachers from Hai'an to join their team, they also sent local teachers to other schools in Hai'an for further training. As a result, advanced teaching concepts, classroom construction, and school management have been implemented in Donglan.
"In the past, most education assistance focused on constructing schools and buildings, but it neglected the vital aspect of building a strong teaching staff. The model that the Hai'an Experimental Class provides is a new form of educational cooperation between eastern and western regions. It may have a profound impact on future educational scenarios," said Luo Qilang, deputy director of the Hechi municipal bureau of rural vitalization.
