The second batch of Chinese medical teams specializing in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) arrived in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, on Tuesday evening.
They conducted a handover of work with the heads of the first Chinese medical team supporting Cambodia against the pandemic, Captain Fan Maorong, and Deputy Captain Zhang Yanhong, who remained in the country.
The second batch consists of eight experts from the Guang'anmen Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences based in Beijing. These experts specialize in internal medicine, acupuncture, and orthopedics.
The medical team will not only perform routine medical treatments but also promote the construction of the national-level China-Cambodia Traditional Chinese Medicine Center.
On March 16, 2022, China sent a team of traditional Chinese medicine experts to support Cambodia in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. On May 17, the expert team transitioned to a Chinese medical team specializing in providing medical assistance to Cambodia. This marks the first national-level Chinese medical team dedicated to combating the pandemic that China has dispatched overseas.
During the mission, the Chinese medical team has provided traditional Chinese medicine treatments to local people, organized free treatment and health education activities, hosted the Cambodia-China-Vietnam International Traditional Chinese Medicine Forum, and conducted professional training for local medical personnel.
On May 15, Cambodia awarded "Knight Class" medals to those Chinese medicine specialists after they completed their 14-month mission in helping the kingdom fight COVID-19 and other diseases.
