A delegation of Hong Kong officials and businessmen, based in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, visited the region's Wuzhou and Hezhou cities on Aug 8 to 11, aiming to gain a deeper understanding of the local economy and explore new commercial opportunities.
Wong Cheuk Yin, the director of Hong Kong's Guangxi Liaison Unit, said they wanted to fully leverage Hong Kong's advantages to promote bilateral trade between Wuzhou and Hong Kong - complementing each other in key industries and unique products, as well as strengthening mutual cooperation.
Wong added that Hong Kong had a great business environment, a strong rule of law tradition, free economic system, sound financial system and top talent - as well as service industries familiar with the international market.
He added that these factors could effectively support the economic and trade development of Guangxi and find the region new business opportunities.
Song Haijun, deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Guangxi, noted that Guangxi and Hong Kong were geographically close and had a strong relationship.
In recent years, Guangxi and Hong Kong have combined forces in such major ventures as the construction of the New International Land-Sea New Corridor and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, achieving solid results.
By May 2023, a total of 3,280 Hong Kong-funded enterprises had operations in Guangxi, with a cumulative actual use of Hong Kong funds of $9.53 billion. Overall, Hong Kong has been the largest source of overseas investment in Guangxi for many consecutive years.
