The General Administration of Customs of China (GMC) announced Tuesday that overseas arrivals who have monkeypox symptoms or have had contact with monkeypox cases should report before entering China.
Since May 2022, monkeypox has been spreading. Over 89,000 cases have been reported in 113 countries and regions, along with 152 deaths. The number of cases in Europe, America, and the western Pacific region is rising, said the GMC.
Travelers from countries and regions where cases have been reported and those who have been exposed to monkeypox or have symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, lethargy, fatigue, back pain, myalgia, swollen lymph nodes, and extensive rash on face and body, should alert the customs when entering the country, it said. The customs will take medical measures and carry out sampling and testing.
Aircraft, ships, containers and goods which have been or could be contaminated from countries and regions where the monkeypox epidemic has occurred, should also be disinfected, the customs said.
