Myanma Railway will increase passenger services to cater to the rising travel need during the upcoming Thingyan holiday, an official from Myanma Railway said on Monday.

"Extra trains will be added to the routes between Yangon and Mandalay and Pyay during the Thingyan holidays while regular trains on the routes will run as usual," U Aung San Oo, an official from Myanma Railway, told Xinhua.

"At the start of the holidays, four extra trains will run on April 11, and six extra trains on April 12. At the end of the holiday, four extra trains will operate on April 20, and six extra trains on April 21," he said.

In addition to the planned extra trains, more trains are also expected to operate depending on the travel needs during the holidays, he said.

He added that tickets for the first class will be sold three days in advance, and tickets for the economy class will be sold one day in advance.

This year, Myanmar's Thingyan Water Festival holiday, the longest holiday in the Southeast Asian country, starts on April 13 and extends until April 21.
