The city of Yulin in Guangxi is an ancient city rich in culture and known as the "Jade of Lingnan." It is home to two national-level intangible cultural heritages and 27 at the autonomous region level. Let's find out what intangible cultural heritage Yulin has!

Yulin Bayin

Known as Bayin of South Guangxi, Blowing the Flute, or Blowing Six Flutes, Yulin Bayin is the only traditional wind and percussion music in Yulin, Guangxi. Originating from the court and military bands of the Qin and Han dynasties, it reached Yulin in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and is referred to by music scholars as the "Symphony in Southeast Guangxi."

As part of the traditional folk culture, Yulin Bayin includes not only the "Seven Blows and Eight Beats" suite but also over 300 long and short pieces. The music primarily focuses on the "three distinctions": tracks specifically for funerals, weddings, and neutral occasions. Thus, there's a local saying in Yulin: "Better to have fewer tables at a feast than to lack a Bayin performance."
