Brunei's Jerudong International School launched a solar PV project with more than 600 solar panels installed on the roofs of key buildings, Brunei's official media reported on Wednesday.
According to the Pelita Brunei, Jerudong International School has become the first school in the country to carry out major solar installation and integrate a comprehensive solar energy system.
The project aims to promote renewable energy and significantly reduce the carbon footprint in the school campus, and is expected to produce nearly 600,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually with an expected lifespan of 25 years.
Brunei is a small, oil-rich country in Southeast Asia, and its government has been committed to developing solar power in recent years to diversify energy structure and economy.
