Indonesia recorded a trade surplus of 2.39 billion U.S. dollars in June, marking the 50th consecutive month of surplus, the country's Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced on Monday.
"This surplus was lower than the previous month's 2.92 billion dollars," said acting head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti at a press conference.
Export value reached 20.84 billion dollars last month, down 6.65 percent compared to May, but up 1.17 percent compared to June 2023.
Generally, export commodities experienced a decline in June, particularly precious metals and jewelry, which contracted by 45.76 percent. In contrast, the export commodities that increased were animal and vegetable fats and oils, rising by 68.06 percent.
On the other hand, the country recorded imports worth 18.45 billion dollars, a decrease of 4.89 percent compared to May but an increase of 7.58 percent compared to the same month last year.
The most significant decline in imports occurred in the machinery and mechanical appliances and parts, at 9.63 percent, while the largest increase was in optical, photographic, cinematographic, and medical instruments, at 64.69 percent.
From January to June 2024, China was the main importer of Indonesia's non-oil and gas commodities, reaching 32.45 billion dollars (35.41 percent), followed by Japan at 6.47 billion dollars (7.06 percent) and Thailand at 4.87 billion dollars (5.31 percent). showed the BPS data.
