Myanmar's 142nd South Sea Pearl Emporium kicked off in the capital city Nay Pyi Taw on Monday, the state-run daily The Mirror reported on Tuesday.
Local and foreign merchants attended the event, observing the pearl lots displayed at the Maniyadana Jade Hall in Nay Pyi Taw on the opening day, the report said.
A total of 175,000 pearls, grouped into 700 lots, will be sold through an open tender system during the four-day emporium, with sales conducted in U.S. dollars, according to the report.
Of the 700 pearl lots, 230 lots were set to be sold on Tuesday, another 230 lots on Wednesday, and the remaining 240 lots on Thursday, the report said.
