On Oct 25, Bawei Yao ethnic town in Nandan county marked its 40th anniversary with a grand celebration. Yao people and visitors from various regions gathered to commemorate the remarkable progress and shared achievements made in advancing ethnic unity.

At 10 am, with the national anthem playing and the Chinese flag raised, festivities commenced. Performances such as traditional drum music, a cultural fashion show, and folk songs highlighted the spirit of ethnic harmony and the resilience of a unified China.

Established in 1984, Bawei Yao ethnic town covers an area of 496 square kilometers in southeastern Nandan county. It has a population of over 31,200, with 11 ethnic groups including Yao, Han, and Miao. Over the course of four decades, Bawei has seen transformative improvements in infrastructure, living standards, and ethnic unity, as it accelerates toward prosperity.

After the celebration, Hechi delegates visited the local health center and middle school to express their gratitude and offer support, encouraging them to remain dedicated to healthcare and education. Retired officials were also honored for their contributions.

Additional traditional activities, like tug-of-war and folk egg-knocking games, added a sense of excitement to the proceeding as residents expressed gratitude for their improved quality of life.
