On Oct 30, China welcomed its first railway shipment of fresh Vietnamese coconuts at the Pingxiang Railway Port in Guangxi. This 42-metric-ton shipment, valued at 160,000 yuan ($22,467), departed from Binh Duong province in Vietnam on Oct 25 and will be transported to Guangzhou. This marks China's inaugural railway-imported batch of fresh coconuts from Vietnam.
According to Li Jian, head of Guangxi Xinjiu International Logistics, fresh coconuts are well-suited for rail transport due to their weight and durability. Compared to road transport, railway shipping offers a more cost-effective logistics solution.
Since the signing of a plant quarantine agreement between China and Vietnam on Aug 19, fresh coconuts from Vietnam have primarily been imported by road.
This latest development expands the import options to include rail, reflecting the ongoing enhancement of agricultural trade between China and Vietnam. It also demonstrates the strengthening economic ties between the two nations as they work towards building a shared future.
