China’s National Language Resources Monitoring and Research Center announced the "Top 10 media buzzwords of 2024" in China on Saturday.
The selected phrases include: new quality productive forces, artificial intelligence, fostering virtue and educating people, Paris Olympics, Global South, China travel, trade-in schemes, low-altitude economy, future industries, and new professions.
Six of the 10 buzzwords reflect emerging trends in the economy, while "fostering virtue and educating people," a slogan emphasized at a national education conference in September, underscores the fundamental task of education development.
The list was derived from the National Language Resources Monitoring Corpus, which leverages language information processing technology and manual curation. The corpus comprises over one billion words.
The list is part of the yearly event "Chinese language review 2024," which will also reveal the "Top 10 online slang terms," "Top 10 new words" and "Character and word of the year."
